In 2236, the Guardians of the Poison Fire gather to initiate the next watch. They travel back to 2026, to meet those who contributed to the Great Turning, allowing life to continue in peace on Earth.
In a healthy and peaceful world, in the year 2236, the tribe gathers around the fire to initiate the next watch of the Guardians of the Poison Fire.
For seven generations, this community has safeguarded the radioactive waste from the former uranium processing plant in Malvési, near Narbonne, to ensure the freedom and health of all living beings in the region.
The young initiates will discover how their ancestors carried out the Great Turning necessary to allow life to continue beyond the beginning of the 21st century, when the harmony and beauty of the Web of Life was under assault. They will meet the first Guardians of the Elements. And they will learn that their mission is about to take an unexpected new turn….
Inspiration
We are deeply grateful to have encountered the imagination of Joanna Macy, one of the visionaries who planted on Earth the idea of the necessity of responsible vigilance over nuclear waste, over what she called Deep Time.
Joanna shared her vision of establishing guardianship sites where nuclear plants and their waste are currently located.
She conceived of these places as future sacred pilgrimage sites, dedicated to remembering the extreme dangers of what she named the Poison Fire, the nuclear waste created by our generations, as well as being places of education and training—so that peace and health might be preserved for all future generations.
Joanna Macy developed an extraordinary body of work, known as the Work That Reconnects. Many of its key rituals are at the root of this present story, now existing as a book, a cooperative board and online game as well as a finished screenplay.
All the characters in this story are real people whose lives express their desire to protect and nurture what they love on Earth. The Guardians of today are filmed with poetic real shots, while the future tribe in 2236 are animated in 3D and the chaotic world of 2026 (seen as history by the future beings) is animated in 2D, to distinguish the different time frames.
The Guardians of the Elements have formed alliances with more-than-human beings in order to multiply their resources, so that together they can care for Gaïa, in harmony. For example, the Guardian of the Earth brings us messages from the mushrooms, who are cooperating with humans to cleanse the soil. Together, these alliances of co-guardians are purifying the air, the water, and the earth, as well as containing the poison fire, and nourishing the fire of love.
Music & images
The music and images are important characters in this story. The principal musicians are a group who specialise in healing frequencies. Their music complements the sensitive nature of the graphic style, putting natural beauty on centre stage, not only in the landscapes, but in the characters and their interactions.

Our intention is to honour all those who love and want to protect particular aspects of the beauty of the living world. With this film, we wish to highlight, support, and encourage the impulse to care for Life.
